The third generation Subaru Impreza WRX STi was introduced for the 2008 model year. The WRX STi was the high performance variant of the Impreza, initially launched as a five door hatchback, but offered as a sedan starting for the 2011 model year. The third generation Impreza WRX STi was offered on a wider body and featured more aggressive bodywork in order to differentiate it from its WRX sibling. In order to further separate the variants, Subaru began calling the variant the WRX STi instead of the full Impreza WRX STi name. The third generation WRX STi was fitted with a turbocharged 2.5L flat four engine and featured full time all wheel drive as well as various performance upgrades. Production of the third generation Impreza WRX STi ended in 2014, when the Impreza's performance variants were moved into their own model, the Subaru WRX.
