Of all the Shelby Cobras, none has the reputation of the famed 427. With a stronger redesigned chassis, and coil spring suspension on all corners, the Mk3 was designed to handle Ford's 427 cubic inch V8 engine. In order to accommodate the massive engine, the fenders were widened and the grill opening was enlarged. While the new chassis was prepared for the 427 engine, a more economical Ford 428 engine was used for an estimated 105 production models later in the production run. Due to the 428 lacking power compared to the 427, it was common for owners to swap engines in these later models. All original 427s feature CSX3xxx designation VINs. Variants include the Base, Competition, Super Snake, and S/C (Semi-Competition). Production of the 427 Cobra ended in 1967.
