The Rover P5, which was introduced in 1958, replaced the Rover P4 as an "executive" sedan in 1958. It was built in 3 consecutive evolutions, the Mark I, II, and III. The original offering was a 4-door sedan with a 3 liter, inline six engine, with a manual or automatic gearbox that sent power to the rear wheels. The Mark II was debuted in 1962, and the Mark III launched in 1965 with modest updates. Finally, in 1967, the P5B was introduced, and it packed a 3.5L V8 engine built by Buick, hence the "B" in the name.The P5B was offered a unique coupe-inspired body style. It retained its four doors and was given a lower roof line and a new angled C pillar. Following the British Leyland Motor Company's acquisition, in 1973 the manufacture of the P5 ceased. The Rover P6, which was initially built concurrently alongside the P5, became its replacement.
