The First Generation of Renault Clio debuted in mid-1990 for the 1991 model year. Known as the Clio I, the 1st Gen Clio introduced the world to what would eventually become one of the most well-known compact cars. These cars were only offered in a two or four door hatchback body style, with a range of gasoline inline four, or a single diesel inline four available as the engine options. Transmission options included a selection of manual or automatic gearboxes. While many variants were built for the Clio I, the most notable is the Clio Williams, which celebrated Renault's relationship with famed F1 team WilliamsF1. Production of the Clio 1 lasted until 1998, when it was replaced by the next generation Clio II.
