The second generation Porsche Cayman, type 981, was unveiled for the 2014 model year (late 2013 in Europe). The new car was available in both a base model with a 2.7-litre engine, and as the Cayman S trim with a 3.4-litre engine. Both versions were available with either a 6-speed manual or a dual-clutch 7-speed PDK transmission. Other notable variants were the Porsche Cayman GTS, the performanced focused Cayman GT4, and the track focused Cayman GT4 Clubsport. The 981 Cayman was replaced with the Porsche 718.
