The second generation of the Porsche Boxster, type 987 (later known as the 987.1) debuted alongside the new 911 (997) and became available in 2005 with a more powerful engine and styling inspired by the Carrera GT.  During the 987.1 generation, in addition to the base model and the Boxster S, Porsche introduced a notable variant known as the RS60 Spyder. The 987.1 evolved into the 987.2 generation in model year 2009.
