The Automatic-transmission version of the Porsche 928 S introduced for the 1980 model year. Intially, these cars were only available in Europe, but they debuted in North America for 1983. The 928 S was originally equipped with a 4.7L V8, but a 5.0L version was used in North America starting in 1985, becoming optional in other markets. Drive from the engine was sent to the rear wheels through a 4 speed automatic transmission. Production of the automatic-equipped 928 S ended in 1986, with the introduction of the Porsche 928 S4.
