The first generation of the Porsche 911, often referred to as the “early 911” or the "SWB" (referring to the short-wheel base chassis), spans from late 1964 to 1968. Throughout this period, Porsche continuously refined the 911, making notable improvements each year to the body, the chassis, and the renowned 2.0-liter flat-six engine. These enhancements made each model year unique, with Porsche offering not only different features but sometimes different variations. The 1968 model year marked the end of the SWB 911s, as Porsche began introducing new variants: the higher-output 911S in 1967, the 911L, and the entry-level 911T in 1968. These developments paved the way for the introduction of the 911E in 1969, which featured an updated and elongated chassis that would serve as the foundation for the 911 model line until 1989.
