The 1967 model year saw several key updates to the base-model 911, including the introduction of the Targa model with a removable roof panel and fixed rollover bar. The 2.0-liter flat-six engine fully implemented Weber carburetors, improving performance and reliability, and received forged valve rockers for enhanced durability, while the five-speed manual transmission became standard, replacing the four-speed offered in 1966. Improvements in body panel fitment, chassis construction, and electrical system components increased overall build quality and reliability. Additionally, interior materials and finishes were refined, providing a more luxurious and comfortable driving experience. These upgrades allowed Porsche to offer the base model alongside a new, more powerful variant: 1967 911S, as well as introducing a more luxurious one: the 911L. It was succeeded in by the 1968 Base Model 911.
