Porsche 997 is the internal designation for the Porsche 911 introduced in late 2004 (2005 in the US) and sold into 2013. The 997 was an evolution of the 996 generation, with the most significant changes being interior and exterior styling, the most notable being the replacement of the "fried egg" headlamps used on the 996 with the classic "bug eye" units. The 997 variants were available over two distinct periods commonly referred to as 997.1, most of which were powered by a 3.6L Mezger engine, and the 997.2 generation, most of which featured a 3.8L engine. Over 136,000 of the 997.1 were sold, with another 76,000 and change of the 997.2 models.
