The Pontiac GTO convertible debuted in 1964 as an upscale Pontiac LeMans. Some say it was the first American muscle car; regardless of opinion, it is an American classic. The convertible is far less common than the hard top, as fewer were made. Pontiac gave customers the option of two V8s, a 389ci, and a 400ci, mated to an automatic or manual transmission.
