The standard, or Base Model, version of the R34 Skyline GT-R, was introduced in 1999. These high-performance coupes featured all wheel drive and a limited slip differential, which helped control the power coming from Nissan's RB26DETT twin-turbo inline six engine. This engine, which was conservatively rated at 276hp, was paired to a 6 speed manual transmission. Notably, the R34 GT-R was shorter than its predecessor, the R33 GT-R, in order to give the car greater agility. Production of the base R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R ended in 2002, with 3,977 examples built.
