The Nash Metropolitan was a series of subcompact economy cars introduced for the 1954 model year. The Metropolitan was unique during a time of large automobiles, with the contemporary press often struggling to find a way to categorize it. A hardtop and convertible version were available throughout production, which took place in three main generations: Series I & II (1954-1955), Series III (1956-1958), and Series IV (1959-1962). In 1957, AMC decided to drop the Nash branding, leaving the Metropolitan as its own brand. Although the Nash name was not officially used from 1958-1962, it is common to see the cars branded as such.
