Introduced in 1956, the Minor 1000 was the last major generation of Morris Minor produced. Named the 1000 for its 1.0L inline four engine, the Minor 1000 was available as a two door saloon, four door saloon, two door convertible, estate (Traveller), van, and pickup. As well as its new engine, the Minor 1000 received a raft of improvements and upgrades aimed at modernizing the model, and offering greater drivability. Among the most notable changes was an improved 4 speed manual transmission that featured taller gear ratios allowing for easier motorway cruising. In 1962, Morris updated the 1000, fitting a larger 1.1L engine, but leaving the variant name unchanged. Although production of the standard Minor 1000 ended in 1971, Morris continued to produce commercial vans and pickups based on the 1000 until 1973.
