Although the Cooper S is the most well-known variant of the Mk III Mini, various other variants were built, notably, under the Mini badge for the first time. In 1969, parent company British Leyland dropped the Austin and Morris names, now using Mini as a brand. Saloon, pickup, and van body styles were offered, as well as 848cc, 998cc, and 1275cc inline four engine options. Production of the Mk III Standard variants ended in 1976.
