The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren was a series of high performance grand tourers introduced for the 2005 model year. The first variant of the SLR to be introduced was the coupe (chassis code C199), which featured distinct butterfly doors that were mounted to the A-pillar and evoked the famous gullwing doors of the 300SL. The SLR was powered by a supercharged 5.4L V8 engine that generated 617hp and 575 lb ft of torque which was sent to the rear wheels through a 5 speed automatic transmission. Although the SLR Coupe was built until 2006, the SLR continued production in variants such as the SLR Roadster, SLR 722 Edition, the SLR 772 S Edition, the SLR Stirling Moss, and the SLR McLaren Edition.
