The Mercedes-Benz SLK230 Kompressor was a variant of the R170 SLK-Class that debuted for the 1997 model year. The SLK 230 Kompressor was fitted with Mercedes' M111.973 engine, which was a 2.3L supercharged inline four. This engine produced 190hp until 2001, when Mercedes introduced their upgraded M111.975 unit, which boosted power to 195hp. Both engines were paired to manual or automatic transmission options which sent power to the rear wheels. Production of the R170 SLK230 Kompressor ended in 2004 when the model series was discontinued. A total of 102,754 examples were built.
