The Mercedes-Benz 500SL was a variant of the R129 SL-Class that was introduced for the 1990 model year. The 500SL was only available as a two door convertible, and was powered by Mercedes' M119 5.0L V8 32-valve engine which sent 320hp to the rear wheels via a 4 speed automatic transmission. In 1993 Mercedes changed their naming conventions across all models, moving the model letters (SL) before the engine displacement (500), resulting in the 500SL becoming the SL500.
