Mercedes-Benz introduced their coupe variant of the W111 in 1961. This series of coupes were some of Mercedes' most luxurious and refined cars at the time. W111 coupe variants were fitted with different displacement versions of Mercedes' inline 6 engines, these included the 220SE Coupe, 250SE Coupe, and the 280SE Coupe. The top of the line 280SE 3.5 Coupe however, was fitted with a M116 3.5L V8 engine. The W111 Coupe saw much less production than its sedan sibling, with less than 30,000 examples built when production ended in 1971.
