The Mercedes-Benz ML55 AMG was the top of the line variant for the W163 M-Class that debuted for the 2000 model year. The ML 55 AMG is considered to be one of the first performance-focused SUVs ever made, not only featuring a powerful engine, but improvements to the susension and drivetrain as well. The ML55 AMG was powered by Mercedes' M113.981 engine, which was a naturally aspirated 5.4L V8 with 347hp and 376 lb ft of torque. Power from this engine was sent to all four wheels through a 5 speed automatic transmission. Production of the Mercedes-Benz ML55 AMG lasted until 2005, with a total of 11,058 examples built.
