The Mercedes-Benz G550 was a variant of the W463 G-Class that debuted for the 2009 model year. The G550 was created when Mercedes updated the G500's engine to a 5.5L V8. Although European examples continued to use the G500 name, the US and Japanese markets saw the introduction of the G550, which indicated the new larger engine. This 5.5L V8 was Mercedes' M273 KE55 unit, which generated 382hp. For the 2016 model year, the G550 was fitted with Mercedes' M176 DE40 AL engine, which was a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 that generated 412hp.
