The Mercedes-Benz G 500 4x4²/G 550 4x4² was a limited edition variant of the W463 G-Class that was introduced for the 2017 model year. While branded as the G500 4x4² for the European market this variant was known as the G550 4x4² in North America. These luxurious off-road cars were based in part on the G63 AMG 6x6, and featured the same portal axle setup that gave greater ground clearance. Although fitted with the AMG bodykit, the G500 4x4²/G550 4x4² was not an official AMG offering. These 4x4²´s were powered by Mercedes' M176 DE40 AL engine, which was a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 that generated 416hp and 450 lb ft of torque. This power was sent to all four wheels via a 7 speed automatic transmission. Production of the Mercedes-Benz G500 4x4²/G550 4x4² only lasted until 2018.
