The first generation of the Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen, or G-Wagen, was introduced for the 1980 model year. These first generation cars were offered in either a short or long wheelbase, with the short wheelbase offering a convertible option. A wide range of variants were produced, including the gasoline powered 200GE, 230G, 230GE, 280GE and 280GE Cabriolet. Diesel variants consisted of the 240GD, 250GD, and 300GD. The first generation of G-Wagen continued until 1991, although its replacement, the W463, was introduced in 1990.
