The Mercedes-Benz 280E was a variant of the W123 Sedan that debuted for the 1977 model year. The 280 E was fitted with Mercedes' M110.984 engine, which was a fuel-injected 2.8L inline six. This engine initially generated 175hp, but a technical update saw power increased to 185hp from the 1979 model year. Both manual and automatic transmission options were available, all of which sent drive to the rear wheels. Production of the W123 Mercedes-Benz 280E ended in 1985 with a total of 126,004 examples built.
