The Mercedes-Benz 220D was a diesel-powered variant of the W115. Introduced for the 1969 model year, the 220D was offered from the factory in a four door sedan body style, although coachbuilt station wagons were available from a range of companies. These cars were powered by Mercedes' OM615 D22 engine, which was a 2.2L inline four that generated 60hp and 93 lb ft of torque. A popular variant, the W115 Mercedes-Benz 220D saw a total of 412,829 examples built before the end of production in 1976.
