The Mercedes-AMG GT R was one of the top variants for the AMG GT Coupe. Introduced for the 2017 model year, the GT R was the most powerful version of the AMG GT, featuring 577hp from Mercedes-AMG's M178 4.0L twin-turbo V8 engine. This highly tuned powerplant was paired to the 7 speed, dual clutch AMG SPEEDSHIFT automatic transmission, which sent drive to the rear wheels. Mercedes would also use the AMG GT R as a basis for the track focused Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro.
