Maserati introduced their updated, coupe version of the GranTurismo for the 2013 model year. This new hardtop variant, known as the GranTurismo Sport, featured a revised version of the 'F136 Y' engine that was developed jointly with Ferrari. This 4.7L V8 now had an output of 454hp that was sent to the rear wheels through two automatic transmission options. The fully automatic 6 speed transmission was standard, while the 'MC Race Shift' 6 speed automated manual was optional. As well as the more powerful engine, the Sport had updated aerodynamics which improved drag and increased the overall length of the car by two inches.
