While models such as the Model 34, Model 48, and Sixteen are well-known, it is the Marmon Wasp that is probably the most well known Marmon. The Marmon Wasp was a one-off race car that is famous for winning the first ever Indy 500 race in 1911. While Marmon had a successful period, the company was unable to survive the Great Depression as an automaker. The company became Marmon-Herrington in 1933, focusing on manufacturing parts, as well as specializing in four wheel drive systems.
