The Lanchester Motor Company, more commonly known as simply Lanchester, was a British automotive manufacturer that began operations in 1899. Lanchester was founded by the three Lanchester brothers, Frederick, George, and Frank, of which Frederick was a highly regarded automotive engineer. The company went from early models like the 25 and 40, to later models like the Ten and Fourteen. Over the course of the company's history, some models achieved success, while others did not, due to various factors like war and economic downturns. In 1930, Lanchester was sold to BSA, who also owned automotive brand Daimler. This sale meant that future Lanchester cars after 1930 were largely badge-engineered versions of Daimler offerings until 1955, when the Lanchester brand became dormant. Although the brand is still registered and owned under the Jaguar Land Rover umbrella by Tata Motors.
