The first generation of Jeep Wrangler was introduced for the 1987 model year. Known as the YJ, the first generation Wrangler featured many of the construction techniques used on the Jeep CJs, but modernized for increased driveability and safety. Built exclusively with four wheel drive and a range of inline four and inline six engines, the Wrangler YJ was in production until 1995, and was replaced by the Jeep Wrangler TJ.
