The XJS was relaunched in its final form in May 1991 under Ford Motor Company's new ownership. Ford dropped the model name's hyphen, marketing it as the XJS. The most noticeable differerence between the Series II and the Series III is the rear tail light configuration. The XJS III lights are more rectangular, as compared to the more triangular shape on the Series II. Because of the mid year release, few samples are found with model year 1991. The XJS was discontinued in 1996, after 21 years in production, superseded by the XK8.
