The first generation of Jaguar XJ was introduced in 1968. Retroactively known as the Series 1, the first generation of XJ was a range of luxury sedans fitted with inline six engines. Starting in 1972, a V12 option was offered in the XJ12 variant. The Series 1 XJ was in production until 1973 and was replaced by the Jaguar XJ Series 2.
