In 2007, Honda introduced a lighter and more track-focused version of its S2000. Known as the S2000 Club Racer (CR) and given the designation AP2, Honda's internal name for the second-generation chassis just after the AP1 ended in 2003. This new variant was lighter with fewer amenities but better equipped with handling improvements such as; stiffer springs, body changes, and a large rear spoiler to increase aerodynamics. Honda deleted the soft top but provided a removable hard top. Customers could also order theirs without AC or radio. Honda made no changes to the longitudinally mounted front engine rear-wheel drivetrain. The 2.2L twin overhead cam inline-four-cylinder produces about 250hp and is combined with a manual-only six-speed transmission. The S2000 halted production in 2009.
