Henderson Motorcycles was an American motorcycle manufacturer that was founded in 1911. Established by brothers William and Tom Henderson, the company specialized in building motorcycles that were powered by a four cylinder engine. Considered to be among the fastest and most powerful motorcycles of their time, Hendersons were often used by sports riders and police officers. In 1917, Henderson was sold to Schwinn, who at the time were building Excelsior branded motorcycles (Excelsior Motor Manufacturing & Supply Company). These two brands were built side by side until 1931, when Schwinn's owner, Ignazz Schwinn abruptly decided to discontinued both brands due to the Great Depression. A short lived venture founded in 1993 saw a brief rebirth of the Henderson name as part of Excelsior-Henderson.
