The second generation of Ford Torino debuted for the 1970 model year. This new generation saw the Torino became a standalone model, as it was previously a luxury trim level for the Ford Fairlane. A variety of body styles including hardtop, fastback, sedan, and convertible were offered, as was a range of optional V8 engines. The most notable variants were the sporty Torino GT and performance focused Torino Cobra. Production of the second generation lasted until 1971, when Ford introduced the Third Generation Torino.
