The 1987 to 1993 Ford Mustang GT was based on the updated  1987-1993 Third Generation Mustang and featured revised styling and performance as an upgrade on the standard Fox platform. Ford continued the GT name from the initial Third Generation Mustang GT, receiving a model line facelift for 1987. The Mustang GT's original MSRP was just under $12,000, as a Hatchback (a/k/a fastback) and a Convertible raised the price (Coupe or notchback was not available for the GT). The exterior was revised, reflecting Ford's aerodynamic exterior styling that featured two-piece headlights, a grill-less front clip, an aerodynamic front bumper with round fog lights, sculpted side aero, a rear bumper with 'MUSTANG GT' lettering, rear spoiler, and louvered taillights. The interior was also vastly updated, with a new style dash, seats, door panels, and console. The electronic fuel injected 302 ci V8 produced 255 horsepower when new and has become a popular engine for enthusiasts. An optional five-speed manual or automatic transmission sent power to the rear wheels with a larger rear sway bar improved handling. Production of the "Aero" Mustang GT lasted until 1993, but the GT model series would continue in the next generation of Mustang as the SN-95 Fourth Generation Mustang GT.
