The Ford F-250 was a variant of the Ninth Generation F-Series that was introduced for the 1992 model year. While primarily based on the chassis from the Eighth Generation F-Series, the redesigned 1992 F-Series, known to enthusiasts as "Aeronose" or "OBS (Old Body Style)," brought many aerodynamic changes to the exterior and enhanced interior comfort and safety. The F-250 was based on the 3/4 ton chassis, whereas the F-150 was based on the 1/2 ton chassis. While relatively identical to the F-150, the F-250 featured heavier-duty front and rear (full-floating) axles, eight-lug wheels, and heavier springs, providing a greater GVW rating. Power was sent to a single rear-wheel (SRW) or dual-rear-wheel (DRW) or "Dually" axle. Configurable body options were only available with a long pickup bed, with the availability of a regular cab, two-door Supercab, or four-door Crewcab. These trucks could be optioned as a two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive drivetrain. Four V8 engine options were offered on the F-250, three were gasoline powered, a 302cid (5.0L), 351cid (5.8L), 460cid (7.5L), and a turbodiesel 435cid (7.3L) that was marketed as a "Powerstroke." All gasoline engines were equipped with Electonic Fuel Injection or EFI. Transmissions offered were a 5 speed manual and a 4 or 3 speed automatic. Trims offered included the entry-level Custom (later XL), mid-level XLT, and the top-of-the-line trims, Lariat and Eddie Bauer. The Ninth Generation F-250 ceased production in 1997 and became part of the F-Series Super Duty.
