The Ferrari F430 Spider is the convertible version based on the base model coupé. The conversion from a closed top to an open-air convertible is a two-stage folding-action, in which the roof panel automatically folds away inside a space above the engine bay. The mechanical components, interior, and performance of the Spider are identical to that of the coupé, although its increase in weight does decrease top speed by 3 mph (5 km/h). The Spider was available with a 6-speed manual transmission or more commonly with the F1 transmission.
