The base model Ferrari 599 GTB is a grand tourer produced for model years 2006 and 2010. It was the brand's front engined, two-seat flagship, replacing the 575M Maranello in 2006 as a 2007 model. The base model 599 was powered by a 6.0 L (5,999 cc) Tipo F140 C V12 engine producing a power output of 620 PS (456 kW; 612 hp) between 7,600 rpm to 8,400 rpm, making it the most powerful series production Ferrari road car at the time. Although the vast majority of the 599 GTB's were equipped with the automated manual gearbox (F1 SuperFast), a special run of 30 Ferrari 599 GTB Manual were produced with the traditional (gated) 6-speed gearbox.
