For the 2019 model year, Ferrari released the 488 Pista Spider, based on the 488. The performance car has a mid-rear engine placement and rear-wheel drive. The powerplant is the same as the Pista coupe (twin-turbo V8) yet the car is much lighter. Ferrari claims that the Spider is lighter than the coupe version of a model for the first time, which is a milestone for the company. The Spider also introduced Ferrari's new Dynamic Enhancer control system for lateral movement management. In 2020 Ferrari ceased production of the 488 and replaced it with the F8.
