The targa-topped Ferrari 348 ts (Transversale Spider), along with its sibling, the coupé 348 tb (Transversale Berlinetta), featured a naturally aspirated 3.4-litre V8 engine. The engine, which had a power output of 296 hp (221 kW; 300 ps), was mounted longitudinally and coupled to a transverse manual gearbox, like the Mondial t with which the 348 shared many components. The "t" in the model "ts" refers to the transverse position of the gearbox. A total of 4,228 examples of the Ferrari 348 ts were produced between 1989 and 1993, far more than the 2,894 for the 348 tb. The 348 ts was replaced by the Ferrari 348 GTS in 1993.
