A redesign of the Dodge D Series for 1972 introduced a more rounded look. This redesign, which lasted until 1980 with minor changes, included new features such as an independent front suspension and pocketed taillights. One of the more notable models is the Dodge Lil' Red Express Truck, introduced between 1978 and 1979, the fastest American made vehicle from 0 to 100 MPH as tested by Car and Driver magazine. Variants offered for the 3rd Gen D Series included the D100, D150, D200, D300, W100, W150, W200, and W300, with "D" representing rear wheel drive, and "W" representing four wheel drive. Another notable offering was the Dodge Warlock. The D series trucks were rebranded as Dodge Ram as of 1981.
