1971 was the beginning of the 3rd Gen Charger but the end of the R/T variant. Before the Rallye version of the Charger took its place, the R/T would only be available for one year in this generation. Also making their last stand was the 426 Hemi and 440 six-pack engine options. Rising gas prices and emissions standards made it tough to sell the R/T package. A total of 2,722 examples of the 3rd Gen Charger R/T were built, with just 63 built with the Hemi engine.
