The second generation of Chevrolet Tahoe was introduced for the 2000 model year, overlapping one year with the previous 1st Gen Tahoe. The previous 5.7L V8 engine was replaced by a smaller 5.3L V8 that produced the same power but slightly less torque. Other changes to the 2nd Gen Tahoe were a completely revised interior and an up-dated exterior design; new grill, mirrors, headlights and overall improved aerodynamics. In addition many safety features were introduced, like side-impact airbags were standard for driver and front passenger and OnStar communication was optional. The second generation Tahoe was in production up to 2006, replaced by the 3rd Gen Tahoe.
