The first generation of Chevrolet Monte Carlo was introduced for the 1970 model year. The Monte Carlo debuted as a personal luxury car featuring a range of V8 engine options sending power to the rear wheels. This new line of cars was offered exclusively as a two door hardtop, and featured the performance focused 'SS' as its top variant. Production of the first generation lasted until 1972, when it was replaced by the Second Generation Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
