The Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 was a high performance variant of the C4 Corvette that debuted for the 1990 model year. The ZR-1 was developed in collaboration with Lotus, who was owned by General Motors at the time. Lotus' expertise in performance was put to good use on the ZR-1, which had a range of cutting-edge features, including adjustable suspension, improved steering, and advanced valve technology on the engine. This engine powering the ZR-1 was known as the LT5, which generated 375hp that drove the rear wheels via a 6 speed manual transmission. Production of the C4 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 ended in 1995, with a total of 6,939 examples built.
