The final evolution of the C1 Chevrolet Corvette was introduced for the 1961 model year. These cars largely maintained the established quad-headlight front end design of the 1958-1960 C1, but featured a redesigned, more angular rear end. Often referred to as a "duck-tail," this new rear end was fitted with four taillights, which would be a Corvette styling theme for decades to come. 1961 would be the last year the 283 cubic inch V8 would be available on the C1, as for 1962, the 327 cubic inch V8 made its debut. The 327 would go on to become a staple powerplant for future Corvettes, with output ratings available for its first year ranging from 250hp to 360hp. Transmission options remained the same as previous C1s, with a 3 speed manual as standard, while a 4 speed manual or 2 speed automatic were optional. A total of 25,470 examples of the 1961-1962 C1 Chevrolet Corvette were produced before the end of C1 production and the introduction of the next generation C2 Chevrolet Corvette.
