The 3rd Gen Nova SS was a legitimate contender when introduced in 1968.  While Chevrolet sold a majority of the Novas to customers as a reliable commuter car, it was the 3rd Gen Nova SS that saw not only small block V8 power but also big blocks could now reside under the hood. There was no longer a wagon or 2 door hardtop available, but supercar dealers like Nickey Chicago, Don Yenko, and others utilized the 2 door post model as a rigid body for the 396. A select few had a 427 installed by dealers aimed at buyers who wanted the most bang for their buck. The 3rd gen also had the F41 Suspension. A new Nova for 73-74 was on its way, but the SS would only be a sport package going forward.
