The sixth generation Buick Riviera was introduced for the 1979 model year. This new generation differed radically from its predecessors as it was a front wheel drive car, and featured a convertible version as well as the standard coupe. The sixth generation Riviera was powered by a range of V6 and V8 engine options and was available until 1985 when it was replaced by the Seventh Generation Buick Riviera.
