The Base Model, or standard offering for the 1st Gen Buick Riviera was introduced for the 1963 model year. The Riviera was a personal luxury car, combining stylish looks with strong performance. These cars were built in a sleek coupe body style, with V8 power. The standard engine was a 401ci V8 while an optional 425ci V8 engine was available. For 1963, a 2 two speed automatic was the only transmission, but a 3 speed automatic was the only option in 1964 and 1965, with these gearboxes sending drive to the rear wheels. Production of the 1st Gen Buick Riviera ended in 1965, when it was replaced by the 2nd Gen Buick Riviera.
